Flip a Card

Say a common 2-word noun or phrase…

Answers are common 2-word phrases or compound words. Answers must start with the 2-letter pair on the card and be commonly recognized — compound words, titles, acronyms, slang, even cultural references all count (footlocker, The Odyssey, S.W.A.T. team, jawn). No repeats or variants of an answer already played, and articles (a, an, the) only go in front. Play moves clockwise.

Beat the Bomb

…within 5 seconds — or take the card.

5 seconds from the previous player’s answer — that’s the whole window. Miss it, repeat an answer, or give one that doesn’t pass and the card lands in your penalty pile. Fewest cards wins, so every card you dodge is points in your pocket.

Win the Vote

Answers have to 'pass muster' with your opponents. A thumbs up or down vote decides your fate. Get voted down and you take the card.

Any player can call “Challenge!” on an answer they don’t think holds up. The challenged player either surrenders — taking the card and ending the round — or accepts and forces a vote of everyone else. Win the vote and you’re safe; lose it and you take every card in play, 1 from the challenger, and the whole discard pile. A tie goes to the challenged player.

The D-Day Scenario

These draw cards flip the script. 10 seconds — if you bomb your answer, take 2 cards.

D-Day cards rewrite a single round with a themed twist — All Compounds, Begin & End (start and end with the card’s letters), or People / Place / Thing / Third Word. Some reward a clever answer by letting you shed a penalty card. Draw 2 D-Day cards back to back and both are discarded.

Meet the Maker

Word War 2 was born at the kitchen table during the pandemic, when artist and educator Kathy L. Jackson turned long days indoors into a fast, funny word game the whole family could play.

Made in Philadelphia under Kalypso Arts (a DBA of Perfect Touch), it runs on one simple, addictive idea: every answer is just two words — funny, fictional, foreign, flubbed, or just plain familiar — blurted out before the bomb goes off.
